Job descriptions for dual meets
***Swim meets are different than other sports as it takes about 80+ people to run a single dual summer swim meet. It is important that you volunteer to help things run smoothly and on time. ***
Age Group Parent - this volunteer group is responsible for making sure all swimmers entered in their age group are present at warmups. If any are missing, please tell the coaches immediately for substitutions. AGPs round up all swimmers for each event and ensure that they are in their lanes at the appropriate time and understand which event they are swimming. AGPs help keep the kids in the team area and let coaches know of any issues. For relays- odd swimmers at the start/blocks, even at the opposite side. Please try to volunteer for your child's age group before signing up for another age group.
Timers - Timers sit at the end of the lane and record times for each race. We have a new system this year. There will be a button on a lanyard. You will not be able to see a time.
Runner - Collects place judge cards from place judge at end of pool after each race and takes them to the scorer’s table. Hangs event results. Runs ribbon results to ribbon coordinators.
Ribbons - Ribbon volunteers sit at a table near the scorer’s table and place labels on ribbons and sort WST ribbons into ribbon folders for each swimmer to pick up at practice. This is typically completed during the meet but can be brought home or completed the following day at the pool as well.
Starter - For home meets, the starter blows the whistle to prepare for each race, tells the athletes, “swimmers take your mark” and then sounds the buzzer to begin each race. This person will need to work with the scoring/head table to make sure things are accurate.
Announcer - For home meets the announcer declares each race and lets everyone know which races are on deck
Concession stand - For home meets, these volunteers help to sell food and drinks as a fundraiser for our team. They purchase ice, take money, and replenish items from the closet as needed.
Set up and Clean up - For home meets these volunteers assist with set up and break down of equipment, set up and clean up of team areas and trash and other duties. Please note: The times for these are early and late.
Stroke and Turn Judges - these volunteers must attend a two hour training each season and our goal is to have ten total judges so they only have to work one meet in this role. This satisfies their family volunteering commitment. S&T Judges watch a quadrant of the pool for the entire meet and let the referee know when there is an infraction by a swimmer that requires a disqualification. This requires training.
