How do Quals and Champs work?

If you have not been to an LSA Qualifications meet before, here are a few tips.

  • Each swimmer can only be entered in three individual events - of which they must have previously earned a qualifying time
  • Each swimmer must have participated in a minimum of two dual meets this season to be eligible for Qualifications.
  • The top 16 swimmers in each event (plus 2 alternates) will qualify to swim in Championships on Sunday. Swimmers in place 1-8 are considered the "championship heat" and swimmers 9-16 the "consolation heat." If a child qualifies 10th, the best place they can get in champs is 9th - they cannot move up to the championship heat even if their time is the fastest. All 16 spots earn points for their team.
  • There is a clerk of the course for both meets. All swimmers must report to the clerk to be lined up for their race. Please listen closely for announcements and make sure your swimmer gets to the clerk on time. Parents are not allowed in the clerk of the course.
  • If your child is listed as an alternate in individual or relay events or Champs, they MUST be present. All kinds of things can happen to allow for that child to move into the race.
  • Swimming in Quals and Champs is a great accomplishment and should be FUN!
